Frequently Asked Questions

Important Information

Welcome to our summer program FAQ sheet! We're excited to answer any questions you may have about our program. Our goal is to provide a fun and safe environment for your child to learn and grow this summer. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or if you wish to connect.

What is the day to day schedule?

A typical day includes free time which can be used to sing, dance, tend to the chickens, harvest vegetables, draw, paint, play gaga ball, build with natural materials, play on the playground and more. The day officially starts with a group wide morning meeting where we connect, sing and practice mindfulness. The groups then break out into unique schedules where they will do small group activities, visit our magical outdoor creative studio, enjoy snack and lunch, free play some more and end the day with a cool down period where they reflect on their day with their group leader. Small group time typically follows where the children's interests lead. This often includes building, drawing, painting, writing, movement, and cooking.

What does spanish immersion mean for my child?

Spanish immersion means your child will be surrounded by the Spanish language throughout their day. Our team converses in Spanish, children are welcome to communicate in Spanish as they please, the summer team weaves Spanish vocabulary into their activities throughout the day and children are encouraged to participate in the language as fits their comfort. Our goal is to allow the staff to show up as their full selves and share their language in this space and share their language with others. ¡Que divertido!

What if my child doesn't know anyone?

Summer at Manitou is attended by students from Manitou School and non-Manitou students. There are families from Cold Spring, Garrison, Beacon, Newburgh, Cornwall, Fishkill, Hopewell Junction, families from New York City and international families calling the Hudson Valley their home for the summer. Children who are new to Summer at Manitou are paired with a buddy or multiple peers who seem to have similar interests to ease the transition into a novel experience. Beyond the day today at the summer program, Manitou is passionate about partnering with families to cultivate a community within the school and beyond its borders.
